The George Whyte collection consists of thousands of works including a French Naturalist collection that brings together the works of French landscape painters from the first half of the 20th century. Most of the artists are French and spent their life in France. They were almost all born at the end of the 19th century and were active during the 1st half of the 20th century.

George Whyte was a British writer, businessman and art collector.

Businessman, author, composer, dramatist, art expert and art collector, George Whyte Grew up in Budapest in the early 1930s and then moved to the UK with his family. He always had a keen interest in the arts. When he was young, he wanted to be a composer but his father told him that he had to make a living. Therefore, he started a company that was then taken up by Maples furniture store and George Whyte ended up being chairman of Maples International. The store had a substantial art export section (he sold furniture sort of all-inclusive interior design) and together with his wife Sally he got more involved in cultural events. George looked for artists whose works he could sell in his shops.

George R. Whyte’s works have been published by (inter alia) Palgrave Macmillan (UK and US), Inter Nationes, Artial and Coda Editions; distributed by Boosey & Hawkes Bote and Bock Berlin; his stage works have been premiered by the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper der Stadt Bonn, Theater Basel, New York City Opera, Opernhaus Zürich, Jüdisches Museum Berlin, National Theatre Prague and broadcast on numerous TV channels and radio networks, including WDR, Channel 4, CBS, France Culture, BBC, Sweden STV1, Slovenia RTV, SLO, Finland YLE and EXPLORE ART
