A TRADITION OF AUTHENTICITY.
Unlike most fish tales our story is one baited with love and anchored in truth. The story starts nearly two decades ago on a busy street in Johannesburg, two shops – one a fish and chips take away and the other a green grocer were opened next door to each other.
The two sets of owners both had young children who grew up in these shops, Nic and Daniela. The pair became friends and would play in the street together always with the backdrop of the delicious smell of fish and chips.
But like the ocean currents change so did the paths of the two young friends, years past and although the memories of their childhood faded, they always recalled those times together and of course the aroma that always took them back to that street.
Some say that there are plenty of fish in the sea, but fate decided that this pair was meant to be and the two found each other again… they fell Hook, line and sinker for each other and romance quickly turned to marriage and then, the birth of there first, child Catalina.
Inspired by their story, the coming together of the two families and the arrival of Catalina, the two decided to honour their families legacy. They joined forces with Nelson (Nic’s brother and all round nice guy) and Eddie (Daniela’s father and the owner of the green grocer from all those years ago) and together the four family members came up with the idea of creating a brand that celebrates those times in our lives when all you need is a little love and a lot of fish.
AND SO THE FISH & CHIP SHOP WAS BORN, A RESTAURANT BATTERED WITH LOVE, SPRINKLED WITH PASSION AND WRAPPED UP IN FATE.
So come join us at our table and enjoy an experience that means so much more than just eating to us, because we believe that good food can transform any meal into a moment to remember.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...
“I believe The Fish & Chip Shop has the best fish and chips in the country! And the meals are very good value for money, from R20 to R70.”
“Check out a really worthwhile fish and chips joint”
“Good old-fashioned fried fish and chips is hard to find in Jozi. But the Fish and Chip Shop situated at the entrance serves the best kind. A large portion of hake and chips fried with the potato skin still intact is enough for two. The battered calamari is even better.”
